English L.O: To identify and write sentences containing main and subordinate clauses.

Activity 1: Listen to Chapter 17 of 'Pig Heart Boy' on the Learning--> Stories page of the website.

Activity 2: Make sure you are comfortable before watching the video below as it is 15 minutes long. Watch the video very carefully as it recaps how we can identify whether a sentence contains a main clause, a subordinate clause or both which is something we have covered in class. Whist you are listening, try to remember all you know about clauses! Below are the checklists from our English working wall in the classroom.

Main (Independent) Clause

  • Makes sense on its own
  • Contains a subject
  • Contains a verb

Subordinate (Dependent) Clause

  • Does not make sense on its own.
  • Contains a subject
  • Contains a verb
  • Begins with a subordinating conjunction (ISAWAWABUB)

Activity 3: Complete questions 1-6 on the attached file below titled 'Subordinate Clauses Activity'. Don't scroll too quickly as the answers are at the end but do go back and mark your answers once you have completed these questions.

Geography L.O: To comprehend and explain the theory of 'Plate Tectonics' and how mountains are formed.

Activity 1: Watch the video below very carefully until minute 5.30. In this video you will hear a lot of new, unfamiliar vocabulary whilst learning about the theory of 'Plate Tectonics'. Plate tectonics is the theory that the Earth's outer shell (crust) is divided into seven sections (scientists call these plates) and fit together like a jigsaw that glide over the rocky inner layer (mantle) above the Earth's outer core. When these plates move towards each other (converge) sometimes they get so close that the Earth in the middle has no where to go but upwards, forming mountains.

Activity 2: I would like you to have a go at explaining the theory of 'Plate Tectonics' in your own words. Your explanation should be in full sentences and I would like you to write a minimum of 2 paragraphs and a maximum of 5 paragraphs. Each paragraph should be at least 3 sentences long. For this task, your aim is to write your explanation using as many of the words/ phrases listed below as possible.

  • Plate Tectonics
  • mountain
  • crust
  • mantle
  • outer core
  • inner core
  • Earth
  • plates
  • moving/ move
  • pressure
P.E.

At a time where we all find ourselves indoors for the most of the day, we should bare in mind how important daily exercise is for our health and wellbeing, particularly our mental health. If you are able to, take your device somewhere with plenty of space (even the garden on a nice sunny day) or clear some space in front of your computer and follow along with Joe Wicks for a 30 minute workout. I will definitely be doing the same!
