Music
Music has a special place at Abberley and we are proud of the talents and skills that our pupils develop during their time at school. Singing is a key part of every day at our school, whether that's during our daily Collective Worship, in our singing practice, which takes place every other Friday, or in our performances at the church or in the village hall, we strive to sing with passion, tune and timing.
Curriculum music is taught by our music specialist Mrs Mitchell and each class has an hour of music lessons on a Monday afternoon for three half-terms a year. As well as developing the associated skills, our lessons focus on developing an appreciation for a wide range of music genres, times and cultures.
Mrs Mitchell also takes the music leaders group. This groups selects the songs that we listen to and seeks to enhance the position of music across the school. The group meets for thirty minutes every Monday and the chair of the group, normally a Key Stage 2 pupil, represents the group on our School Council.
