Monday 8th June

English L.O: To use settings and fronted adverbials.

Activity 1: Ask an adult or older sibling to test you on the new 10 spellings you received on Monday 18th May and make a record of your score in your home learning books . New spellings for you to be tested on next week can be found below.

Activity 2: : Listen to Chapter 14 of 'The Stolen Sister' on the Learning --> Stories page of the website.

The skill of using fronted adverbials is very useful when creating story settings. I think this lesson from the BBC is fantastic and teaches much of what you need to know when it comes to using and Comma PNG images free downloadpunctuating sentences using fronted adverbials.

Activity 3: Click the following link: Settings and Fronted Adverbials

Once you are on this webpage, please watch the video at the top which will re-familiarise you with fronted adverbials, read through the information carefully (it's really important!) Then, watch the final video. It is an excellent clip to learn more about creating a story setting.

Activity 4: Once you have completed the above, there are 3 activities for you to complete (complete these activities, NOT the activities on the BBC website).

  1. The first is an interactive quiz that you will find at the bottom of the webpage.
  2. Open the attached file named 'Spot the Fronted Adverbials' and complete questions 1-3. Answers are also attached below.
  3. Open the attached file named 'Writing Prompt'. For this activity, you have a picture and a selection of fronted adverbials to go with it. Use the picture and these adverbials to write a description of what you can see. The first sentence has been done for you. Remember to always place a comma after the fronted adverbial to separate it from the main clause.

Science L.O: To explain how light is reflected.

Activity 1: Read through the following information, you will learn what an 'incident ray' and a 'reflected ray' is as well as what the law of reflection means.

How is Light Reflected?

We know:
  • An incident ray is the ray of light that comes from a light source and hits an object.
  • A reflected ray is the ray of light that if reflected off that object.
  • The law of reflection = the angle of the incident ray is the same as the angle of the reflected ray.

For this activity you can either: have a go at making your own periscope (if you have the materials) using these instructions OR watch the video below which explains how the law of reflection allows us to see using a periscope.

P.E.

At a time where we all find ourselves indoors for the most of the day, we should bear in mind how important daily exercise is for our health and wellbeing, particularly our mental health. If you are able to, take your device somewhere with plenty of space (even the garden on a nice sunny day) or clear some space in front of your computer and follow along with Joe Wicks for a 30 minute workout. I will definitely be doing the same!
