Monday 30th March

English: L.O: To compare how character feeling appears to change over time and use evidence to support.

In addition to completing the tasks below, I would highly recommend reading a challenging book of your choice for a minimum of 30 minutes per day

Activity 1: Test yourself on last week's spellings which you have stuck in your spelling records. Make a record of your score. New spellings for you to be tested on next week can be found below.

On Friday, you listened to Chapter 6 of Pig Heart Boy. This chapter was a lengthy chapter and you will find a brief summary of it below to remind you of what happened (it is important that you don't just rely on the summary to help you with the following activity).

In Chapter 6, Cam and his parents were driven by Dr Erlich to the secret medical facility where he was to meet Trudy. Trudy is the pig whose heart Cam will receive during his transplant. Cam's mum was very upset and reluctant to attend and Cam and Dad were getting increasingly annoyed with her attitude but mum continued to be very blunt with both Cam, Dad and the workers at the facility. Once they arrived, the doctor took Cam and his parents to see Trudy. On the way, Mum drops the bombshell that she is pregnant, even Dad was unaware of this. They are required to be clean and in protective clothing. Cam felt a strong sense of guilt at the idea of taking Trudy's heart but was ultimately excited at the prospect of the operation and living his life to the full!

Activity 2: Listen to Chapter 7 (7 mins) on the Learning --> Stories page of the website

Activity 3:  Use the table below as a template to compare how the feelings of the characters of Cam, Mum and Dad have changed from Chapter 6 to Chapter 7. Remember to use evidence from the book to support your ideas.

Science: L.O: To identify the parts and functions of the heart.

Attached below is a file called 'Heart Activity'. On this sheet, there is a picture of the human heart with letters representing each part of the heart. At the bottom of the page, you will find all of the parts of the heart which must be put in the correct place.

Activity: Watch the video below and then try to match each letter A-J to a part of the heart.

E.g. A= Superior Vena Cava

For an additional challenge you could add what the function of this part of the heart is (e.g. the Superior Vena Cava brings deoxygenated blood into the heart from the body.)

When you are complete, the answers are attached for you to mark your work once you are finished.

P.E.

At a time where we all find ourselves indoors for the most of the day, we should bare in mind how important daily exercise is for our health and wellbeing, particularly our mental health. If you are able to, take your device somewhere with plenty of space (even the garden on a nice sunny day) or clear some space in front of your computer and follow along with Joe Wicks for a 30 minute workout. I will definitely be doing the same!
