Monday 20th April

A Message from Miss Harvey

English: L.O: To write a newspaper report using my own predictions from 'Pig Heart Boy'.

Activity 1: Ask an adult or older sibling to test you on the new spellings you received on Monday 30th March and make a record of your score in your home learning books . New spellings for you to be tested on next week can be found below.

Activity 2: Listen to chapter 14 of 'Pig Heart Boy' on the Learning--> Stories page of the website.

Activity 3: In this chapter, Cameron discusses what it means to be fit and healthy. Make a list of important things that he mentions that you must do to keep fit and healthy.

Activity 4: The following link recaps and highlights the main features of a newspaper report. Watch the video and read the bullet points below it- they summarise the points made in the video.

Features of a Newspaper Report

Activity 5: Using the real headline from the story: ’The Boy with a Pig’s Heart Inside His Body!’, have a go at writing this newspaper article. Remember to consider all that you know about Cam's experiences leading up to his operation. You must try to write what only the press may have heard (which is unlikely to be the full, true story). Experiment with exaggeration and hyperbole to sensationalise the story! Below is a newspaper report template if you wish to/ are able to print it out to write your report on.

P.E.

At a time where we all find ourselves indoors for the most of the day, we should bare in mind how important daily exercise is for our health and wellbeing, particularly our mental health. If you are able to, take your device somewhere with plenty of space (even the garden on a nice sunny day) or clear some space in front of your computer and follow along with Joe Wicks for a 30 minute workout. I will definitely be doing the same!

Additional Tasks

Knowing you all as I do, I know that we all work at our own pace. Whilst many of you will find the work I set each day to be just the right amount, I am also aware that many of you will work through these tasks quickly. For this reason I have attached some additional tasks at the bottom of the page. My aim is to attach a minimum of one per day and they are to be either English or Maths based. I must stress that these additional tasks are OPTIONAL and I do not expect you to complete them if you find that the work set it just the right amount for you! For many of these tasks, the answers will be on the final page so avoid these until you have completed the task(s) first.
