Autumn 2023

Chair of Governors September 2023

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the start of the Autumn term – it only seems like yesterday that we were celebrating the achievements of last year’s leavers. I hope they are all thriving in their new schools, and will build on the values that they have learnt through their time at Abberley.

It is wonderful to see how well the new starters have settled in to school.

And this term is a time for change across the whole school. Not only do we have a new intake of children in Reception, but we have welcomed Mr Darling, our new teacher in Kestrels, Mrs Roberts, our new KS2 TA, and of course Mrs Shelley into her new role as Interim Head. Alongside the new staff, many of our existing staff have moved roles or taken on new leadership and management responsibilities.

Our Reception children, in line with our School Development Plan, are now in a class on their own for the majority of their time in school. This is to further embed the EYFS curriculum, and to support the children in their transition into a more formal learning environment.

As governors we are also getting back into the swing of strategic oversight of the school, and are continuing to work alongside the school leadership team to ensure that the management transition in particular is effective and supported.

At this early point in the year everyone seems to be settling in very well, and the school is, as always, an incredibly positive place to be.
