English L.O: To use inference to decipher character feeling and to retrieve and record key information.

Activity 1: Ask an adult or older sibling to test you on the new 10 spellings you received on Monday 29th June and make a record of your score in your home learning books . New spellings for you to be tested on next week can be found below.

Activity 2: Listen to  Chapter 12 of 'Skellig' on the Learning --> Stories page of the website. As you are listening, try to answer the following questions (the answers are attached at the bottom for you to check once you are done):

Chapter 12:

  1. Who is at home when Michael gets back from school?
  2. What does Dad say has to happen to the baby?
  3. What does Michael’s mum say shoulder blades are?
Polyphemus

Activity 3: In Chapter 11 (that you listened to on Thursday), Mrs Dando teaches the class about 'Polyphemus'. Read the text below titled 'Polyphemus' and answer the following three questions:

  1. The story of Polyphemus is a myth. What is a myth?
  2. Do you know any other myths? Describe one.
  3. What does the story of Polyphemus teach us about being cunning versus being strong?
Michael's Mum

Activity 4: In Chapter 12, we get a better sense of how Michael's mum is feeling. Open up the file below titled 'Michael's Mum'. For this activity, you will need to listen to Chapter 12 again and pick out 4 different feelings/ emotions Michaels mum appears to be feeling before backing this feeling up with evidence (a quote) from the text.
