Reception.
Today we have some more activities to practise our Phase 3 sounds. Please see the sheet below.
Year 1.
Today we are going to looking at the o grapheme which can be make the long oa sound or the short o sound. See below for the activities.
Maths.
Reception.
We have spent the last couple of days looking at flat 2D shapes. Today we are going to start looking at solid 3D shapes.
Parents - this can often be confusing for the children as solid 3D shapes have faces which are 2D shapes. To help them distinguish between the 2D and 3D shapes we say that we can pick up our 3D shapes because they are solid whereas we can't pick up our 2D shapes because they are flat although we can see them. The children tend to be more comfortable with the 2D shape names and properties initially. In Reception we introduce them to the concept of 3D shapes, their names and talk about how their shape makes them suitable for certain jobs.

Now have a look at the 3D shapes powerpoint which is attached below. On the powerpoint you will see the names of 3D shapes and some objects which are that shape.
Can you find an object for each shape around your house? Were some easier to find than others?
When you have found your 3D shapes you could use them to play What's in the bag?
Try and describe your 3D shape so your grown-up can guess it and then swop over.
If you would like to I have attached some sheets where you can have a go at making some 3D shapes. You may need an adult to help as some of the cutting and sticking may be a bit tricky. What have you made? Can you remember the 3D shape name for them.
Year 1.
Today we are again looking at equal groups, this time using sharing.

Yesterday we learnt all about the outside of our bodies. Today we are going to be thinking about what is inside our bodies. Our bodies can do all sorts of amazing things. I wonder how they work?

Parents - it is always interesting to talk to children about what they understand about how our bodies work and what the different parts of the body do. Have a chat with our child about what they have seen in the video and what their understanding of the skeleton, heart, lungs, stomach and brain are?
Now using the body outlines below see if you can draw what you think the inside of our bodies look like. What are the main things you will include in your drawing?
Our skeletons are really important as they hold us, help us move and protect the inside of our bodies. Without a skeleton we would be like a puddle of jelly on the floor!
