Happy New Year. Children have returned to school with positivity and got straight into their new topics of learning and to developing their vocabulary.

In assembly on Wednesday, we talked about belonging and the importance of connection in our lives. As a school, it remains our goal to be rooted and grounded in love. We do this by striving to deepen our connection by communicating, listening and being open and transparent. As I have walked through the school this week, it has been great to see the positive connection that pupils have with each other and the adults in school. We also talked about the New Year being a fresh start. To demonstrate this, two volunteers cleaned Miss Rixon's scuffed and muddy boots. By brushing the mud off, polishing and buffing them twice, they came out shiny and looking good as new (I think she was quite keen for this assembly to be repeated). The message was that it takes effort to be our best selves and we can brush ourselves off and keep going. We hope that this New Year allows us to grow, become more resilient and find joy through connection in all that happens.

We hope that you received the class information from the teachers this week and that this proved helpful in preparation for the term ahead. We plan to send an e-mail to parents at the start of each term outlining the topics and structure of learning for the term. Lots of information relating to learning in the school can also be found in the curriculum section of website. We know from educational research that children make best progress when their is a positive relationship between school and home and when learning is reinforced in both environments. We hope that the information provided will support this.

Back to school advice issued

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/back-to-school-advice-issued-amid-high-levels-of-flu-covid-19-and-scarlet-fever

As pupils and students return to school following the Christmas break, UKHSA is reminding people that winter illnesses continue to circulate at high levels.

Following simple steps can help protect children, minimise the spread of illness in education and childcare settings and protect wider communities.

Flu and coronavirus (COVID-19) are currently circulating at high levels and are likely to continue to increase in coming weeks. High numbers of scarlet fever, which is caused by group A streptococcus, also continue to be reported.

Professor Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Adviser at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), said:

It’s important to minimise the spread of infection in schools and other education and childcare settings as much as possible. If your child is unwell and has a fever, they should stay home from school or nursery until they feel better and the fever has resolved.

Helping children to learn about the importance of good hand hygiene is also key, so practice regular handwashing at home with soap and warm water. Catching coughs and sneezes in tissues then binning them is another simple way to help stop illness from spreading.

Adults should also try to stay home when unwell and if you do have to go out, wear a face covering. When unwell don’t visit healthcare settings or visit vulnerable people unless urgent.

T-towels

After many phone calls, emails and a lost parcel the T-towels have finally arrived in school.  Due to the first parcel going missing the T-towels were reprinted and sent out again hoping they would arrive with us before we broke up for the Christmas holidays, but that was not to be, and both parcels arrived yesterday evening.

The t-towels will be sent home today and because the lost parcel also arrived you will receive double the amount of the items you ordered.
