In English, the children have finalised their discovery narratives, inspired by Charles Darwin and the discovery of a new species. The pupils worked hard to develop engaging descriptions, thoughtful vocabulary and clear narrative structure to bring their discoveries to life.
In maths, we have continued exploring fractions, decimals and percentages. As the week progressed, the children built their confidence in understanding the links between these concepts. We finished the week by learning how to find any percentage of a given amount, using strategies such as finding 10%, 5% and 1% before combining them to calculate other percentages.
In history, we explored how the city-states of Athens and Sparta were governed. The children examined the similarities and differences between the two systems, thinking carefully about democracy in Athens and the more militaristic society of Sparta.
In PSHE, the children became “agony aunts”, responding to fictional worries from people experiencing challenges related to peer pressure and health concerns. They worked thoughtfully to offer sensible advice and discuss positive choices.
In art, we have continued developing our layered portraits. This week the children applied paint to their collages, carefully adding colour and tone to create greater depth and detail in their work.
This week in science, we have looked at the different parts of a flower and how pollination takes place. We have also looked at the different ways that seeds are dispersed.
In computing we looked at infrared waves and how they are used to transmit data. We then thought about how infrared devices could be used in school and designed a device that would either detect heat, provide an invisible barrier or show the proximity of an object.
In RE we have been looking at what it means if God is Holy and Loving. We have thought about words that Christians may use to describe God and have looked at extracts from the bible to find out some of the characteristics Christians believe God has.
