Our value in Collective Worship at the moment is

Forgiveness

What a fantastic afternoon of teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit we enjoyed at our annual Sports Day. Thank you to the Friends for organising refreshments for the adults and for supplying all pupils with a delicious ice-cream too.   A huge well done to all the pupils for their enthusiasm and effort.

Special congratulations to Beech House, who earned the most points and were crowned overall winners—brilliant work.

Enterprise Day – Year 5 & 6 Business Project

Over the past few weeks, our brilliant Year 5 and 6 pupils have been hard at work developing their very own business ventures as part of our exciting Enterprise Project. Working in teams, the children have designed, planned, and promoted their products with impressive creativity and entrepreneurial spirit!

We are proud to introduce the four fantastic companies they have created:

  • Mini Collectors – offering unique collectables and mini treasures.

  • The Sugar Shack – a sweet treat haven full of delicious goodies.

  • Smoothshake – serving up fresh, fruity smoothies and sweet treats

  • TECO The Eco Turtle – selling eco-friendly merchandise with a message about sustainability.

Each group has produced their own video advertisement, showcasing their products and marketing skills. Look out for these in the coming days.

The children will be selling their products on Tuesday 15th July, which we’re calling Enterprise Day. If your child would like to make a purchase and support their peers, we encourage them to bring some money to school on this day. All profits raised will go towards new school resources to benefit all our pupils.

Thank you for supporting our young entrepreneurs. We can’t wait to see their hard work in action!

Music lessons

As a reminder, from September there is the opportunity for children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to participate in music tuition in school.  The tuition is charged at £47.28 per hour and sessions are booked in twenty or thirty minute slots:

  • Piano - individual 20 minute lessons at £15.76
  • Guitar and violin - 20 or 30 minute lessons in small groups.  The cost is dependent on the group size
  • There may also be the opportunity to learn another instrument if you put your choice down

You are expected to commit for the full year.  Please complete and return the form previously circulated by 7th July.

Chickens

Our 3 hens are still needing a home for the summer!  They are very well-behaved and come with all the food and bedding they will need.  If you would like to look after them over the summer holidays, please speak to Mrs Shelley or Mrs Day.  Thank you.

Wrens

We have had a brilliant busy week in Wrens!  On Tuesday we had a wonderful day at the Early Years Music Festival.  The children looked fantastic in their fairytale costumes and our extra large noisy shakers were a definite hit!   The children did a great job remembering the song and dance moves we had been practising.

We were also very excited that our butterflies hatched out of their cocoons this week.  We kept them in their butterfly net for a couple of days so we could watch them and then on Wednesday we set them free in the wildlife area.  They took a few minutes to stretch their wings before they flew off to explore.

On Thursday we welcomed our new Reception children into class for their second transition morning.  The children were great ambassadors for the school and helped our new children settle into our indoor and outdoor environments.

We are very excited about Sports Day this afternoon.  We have been busy practising our best running, jumping and throwing. Hopefully we will have lots of fun!

The children have now come to the end of our phonics programme for Reception, so there are no more homework sheets in the orange phonics books.  We have a couple more lessons left and then we will carry out our end of term assessments.  Please could we also ask that all reading and library books are returned to school on Thursday next week.  Thank you!

Timetable

Thursday: PE kits

Thursday: Reading books, library books, Show & Tell and orange phonics books

Friday: Outdoor learning

Skylarks

On Monday Skylarks had a great day out at the Chantry taking part in a multi-skills festival. They tried a whole range of different activities such as curling and football skills.

This week in maths, we have continued to learn about fractions. The children have recapped halves of shapes, objects and quantities. We then moved on to quarters. The children were able to recognise that because the denominator of ¼ is 4 then there must be 4 equal pieces. They then learnt to identify a quarter of shapes, objects and then quantities. To end the week, the children learnt to recognise thirds of shapes and objects.

In history we learnt about Amelia Earhart. The children wrote a diary entry, pretending Amelia Earhart landed her plane on their farm.

In science this week, the children used their knowledge of materials to design a parachute and basket that will protect an egg from cracking when they drop it. On Monday the children will be making their parachute designs before testing them. Please can your child bring any of the materials they will need. For example, bubble wrap and a plastic bag.

At the end of the week the children began to plan for writing their own narratives based on a character becoming lost in a forest. The children first used role play and drama in our wildlife area to develop ideas and storylines. This was followed up by planning for each section of the story by thinking about the effective vocabulary and writer knowledge they could use to develop their ideas.

In music this week, we listened to Jupiter by Holst. We have looked at the instruments from the string, brass and woodwind families. In groups, we have created a space composition using a variety of percussion instruments.

Homework

Year 1: Weekly phonics practise sheets are sent home on a Friday in the orange phonics book. Information is on the front page of the book to explain the weekly homework. Your child should also 'celebrate' their reading and enjoy 'showing off' how well they can read their Little Wandle book to you. Please read this a few times while it is at home. Little Wandle books to be returned on Wednesday.

Homework

Year 2: 1 page of mental arithmetic maths book set on a Friday and 15 minutes of TTRS (TTrockstars) to be completed for the following Wednesday. Please read the Little Wandle reading books that are sent home a few times. Little Wandle books to be returned on Wednesday. Spellings in the blue book will be handed out on Friday.

Kestrels

In maths this week, both Y3 and Y4 have moved onto the topic of shape. Y3 have been looking at quarter and half turns, thinking about how many degrees they have turned through. We then moved on to looking at angles and the difference between acute, obtuse and right angles. Y4 have been learning about parallel and perpendicular lines as well as acute and obtuse angles and different types of triangles and quadrilaterals.

In DT, the children have started their new topic of textiles. They have been practising their sewing skills of cross stitch and applique ready for them to design their own cushion, which we will be starting to make next week.

In history, we have continued with our topic of The Romans and have been looking into the reasons that the Roman army was so successful. The children were using secondary sources to help them find out more about the different aspects of the Roman army.

In music, we have been busy learning the songs that we will be singing at the Big Sing at Malvern Theatres. Please remember to bring in your forms - we're very much looking forward to our first time at this event.

Merlins

It has been a great week in Merlins. In English, the children have started writing their invention narratives, inspired by Manfish: The Story of Jacques Cousteau. After carefully planning their ideas, they are now using their creativity and descriptive skills to bring their imaginative inventions to life in their writing.

In French, the focus has been on learning how to describe the position of objects in relation to one another!

A real highlight of the week was our fantastic day on the river, where Year 6 took to the water for a brilliant bow boating experience. The children showed incredible determination and perseverance, and truly made us proud with their positive attitudes.

On Friday, we held our final rehearsal before next week’s dress rehearsal. The children have been working extremely hard, and we encourage everyone to keep practising their lines ahead of the upcoming performances. We ended the week on a high with a lively and competitive Sports Day, where pupils had the chance to showcase their sporting talents across a range of events. Well done to all!
