Our value in Collective Worship at the moment is

Forgiveness

What an absolutely wonderful week we've had at Abberley. I'm bursting with pride as I write to share some truly special moments with you all.

Firstly, I have to share Lewys and Charlie's remarkable achievement yesterday. Their excellent communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities and engineering prowess earned them second position at the finals of the Worcestershire STEM challenge. I am so extremely proud of these two, they've represented our school with such distinction and shown exactly what our Abberley values look like in action. We are all super proud!

Adding to our week of celebrations, I must share how immensely proud I am of the thirteen pupils who performed at the Three Countries Show ground last Friday. Their beautiful singing voices represented our school with such distinction and I know their performance touched the hearts of everyone who heard them.  What a fantastic experience and what a privilege to represent our school in such a public forum.

Our Annual Green Day on Tuesday was nothing short of spectacular too. The creativity demonstrated using recycling and reusing was genuinely inspiring – the trashion show was a absolute triumph! The ingenuity and imagination displayed by our pupils as they transformed everyday recyclable materials into stunning outfits for our trashion show left me genuinely amazed. The children enjoyed parading down the outside catwalk sharing how their outfits were made. Read the news report below for more information.

Our Year 4 pupils have had the most wonderful residential at Folly Farm this week, even with the rather hot weather! They've been putting their science and IT skills to brilliant use, creating their own nature reports, which we're all looking forward to watching next week. Read the news reports below to see photographs and more information about their adventures.

I would like to thank Mrs Gregory and Mrs Birch for giving up precious time with their own families to look after our Abberley family during this residential.

These experiences perfectly capture what makes our school community so special. From environmental awareness to residential adventures, from musical performances to creative expression, our pupils continue to embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm and determination.

Finally, a quick reminder that class photographs were taken this week – please look out for an email with details on how to view and order your photos. Next Friday, pupils can wear home clothes instead of school uniforms in exchange for bringing in an item for the summer tombola - they'd welcome any unused toys, chocolates, sweets, home furnishings, alcohol and bottles of soft drinks.

Have an enjoyable weekend enjoying the warm sunshine.

Claire Shelley Headteacher

Wrens

We have certainly had an exciting week in Wrens. On Tuesday the school turned green as we celebrated Green Day and learnt about caring for our wonderful world.  We were absolutely amazed by the children's fantastic Trashion Show outfits and it was lovely to see the confidence with which they strutted their stuff on the catwalk.  Throughout the day the children enjoyed a range of different activities learning about sustainability and the local environment, including designing an Ecocity, planting seeds, pond dipping and building some scarecrows for the school garden.  On Wednesday we had a wonderful morning at the Cluster Tiny Olympics.  The children joined in with great enthusiasm with all the different sports activities.  In between all this excitement we have been continuing our phonics lessons and further consolidating our learning on number bonds to 10.  We have also been working on learning the songs for the "Fabulous Fairytales" music festival in a couple of weeks.

Our caterpillars are no longer tiny, they are now big fat caterpillars and are getting ready to build their cocoons.   We will keep you updated!

Skylarks

This week in English, the children have been fully immersed in the story The Last Wolf. Through role play, they explored the characters and their reactions, bringing the story to life for them. Alongside this, we focused on identifying and understanding key vocabulary and phrases within the book, discussing their meanings and how this creates the imagery for the reader. To finish the week, the children used their five senses to describe the forest where Little Red Riding Hood is in the book.

In maths, we began the week with a fun and practical shop activity. The children loved choosing items to "purchase," selecting the correct coins and calculating the change they would receive. We then moved on to learning how to make one pound using different combinations of coins. Later in the week, we started our new topic on fractions, where the children have been identifying equal and unequal parts of shapes and everyday objects.

In art, the children explored a range of drawing materials, experimenting with different textures and effects. They drew different insects before using pastels to add pops of colour to their work.

In music, we have listened to Jupiter from the Planets by English composer, Gustav Holst. We discussed the orchestral instruments used, as well as the tempo, dynamics and pitch. In groups, we have started to plan our own Jupiter composition, thinking about which instruments could be used and how we are going to play them.

Merlins

In English, the children have continued reading Manfish by Jennifer Byrne. They’ve been busy analysing the text, focusing on its language and structural features in preparation for writing their own pieces inspired by the story.

In maths, some of the children have been working on interpreting tables and solving problems by finding missing information based on the data provided. It’s been great to see their reasoning and problem-solving skills developing.

Our rehearsals for Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits are going really well. The children have been working incredibly hard to learn their lines and this week we even had a rehearsal with props which brought the performance to life!

In French, the children have been learning how to describe their homes, including who lives there and what rooms are upstairs and downstairs. Their growing confidence in speaking French is fantastic to see.

Year 5/6 children also continued with their enterprise project. This week, they pitched their business ideas to a panel of “dragons” – including Mrs Shelley, our Chair of Governors and the Chair of the Friends Association. The children created some brilliant presentations and visuals that really impressed the dragons, earning them investment for their businesses.
