Our focus in Collective Worship at the moment is

Easter

We've reached the end of another busy and enjoyable term. The sunshine this week has been kind, adding an extra touch of warmth to our Easter celebrations.

Last night, the Easter egg hunt was a roaring success, and congratulations to Daley for winning 'Name the Bunny' and Joy Sheriff for clinching the raffle prize of the giant chocolate bunny.

The Easter services were a delight, with beautiful singing in the church and an array of impressive Easter bonnets on display. It's moments like these that make our school community so special.

On Wednesday Reception and KS1 were lucky enough to spend some time feeding and petting three lovely lambs over at preschool. A big thank you to Matilda's parents for bringing these from their farm. The children really enjoyed themselves and it fitted wonderfully with the children's learning on seasons and life cycles.

Our sporting endeavours continue to impress, with the house cross-country event today demonstrating the determination and spirit of our young runners. Well done to all who participated. Here are the fastest long distance winners for each year group:

Today we celebrated Pupils of The Term (see below) and excellent attendance. These children have had 100% attendance since September 2024. When asked for any tips, Piper said that by washing her hands she has stopped getting any germs and Jenson said that even on days when he felt like he didn't want to do something in school, once he tried it, he realised that he often liked it!

Twelve other pupils received chocolate Easter lollies as they have only missed one day of school since September. Eighteen pupils also received a chocolate lolly as they have had 100% attendance for the whole of the Spring Term. Excellent.

Effective communication between home and school is important. Please click on this link to learn how together we can archive this together.  https://youtu.be/9ZUZpJzSkc4?si=xB2szkhDjaVvmCy4

As we bid farewell to this term, I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break. Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community.

Claire Shelley  Headteacher

Attendance

Overall school attendance since September: 96.5%

Overall absence: 3.5%

Unauthorised absence: 0.6%

Top Safety Tip  The ongoing issue of parking. While I appreciate the challenges, I kindly ask parents to be mindful of our neighbours when parking, but more importantly, to avoid obstructing areas where pupils cross on the Clows Top Road. As we have some pupils who walk to school independently, it's crucial that we all remain mindful of their safety. Please ensure you park responsibly to keep all our children safe.

Palm Sunday Prayers and Procession from Abberley St Michael to Abberley St Mary - 13th April

The Palm Sunday service will start at 10.45am this Sunday from St Michael's Church.  Everyone is very welcome to come along and there will be the opportunity for pupils to read the prayers written by our CREW group.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Spring lambs
We had a real taste of spring when Matilda brought some lambs from her farm to visit us.  They were very cute and their visit allowed us some real life experience to link to our current science topic of "animals including humans".

Wrens

We have had a lovely week in Wrens celebrating the wonderful weather and learning about Easter.  We were delighted to meet some of the spring lambs from Matilda's farm on Wednesday and finished the week with some amazing Easter bonnets at our Easter celebration morning.

We have also been talking about "Stranger Danger" in PSHE this week.  We discussed what a stranger is and how we must never speak to, accept gifts from or go with anyone we don't know.  We also talked about strategies we can use to keep ourselves safe.  Finally, we discussed who is a "safe adult" that we can talk to should we become lost or scared.

The children performed very well in their last set of phonics assessments. They will not be bringing home any reading or library books over the Easter holiday as we are currently restructuring the reading groups.  They do however have the next homework sheet for their phonics learning when they return from the Easter holiday in their orange phonics book.

Next term PE will remain on a Thursday.  However, outdoor learning will be moving to a Friday afternoon.  Show and Tell and book change day will remain on a Thursday.

I hope you all have a very happy and restful Easter holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks.

Skylarks

Here is a quick overview of the key information for next half term.

Outdoor Learning will be on a Monday. Please send your child to school with wellies and appropriate clothing, such as a coat or sunhat etc depending on the weather.

Swimming is on a Tuesday. Please send your child with their swimming kit and a towel. PE will be on a Thursday.

Little Wandle books will still go out towards the end of the week and must be returned on the following Wednesday.

We are having fewer books returned on time which results in us being unable to use the set of books with other children on a Monday, so please ensure that these come back on time. From after Easter, if books are not returned, then we will be unable to send another book home with your child until any outstanding book is returned.

Year 1 will continue to get their orange phonics books on a Friday with the sounds we have covered that week. These are a great way for you to know what they've been learning and to reinforce this learning at home.

Year 2 need to be completing 1 page of their mental arithmetic book and 15 minutes of TTRS, which is set on a Friday and due on the following Wednesday. They will also have spellings in a blue book given out on a Friday. Please can you help them to practise these ready for their test on a Friday.

Timetable

Little Wandle books to be returned on Wednesday.
