Our value in Collective Worship at the moment is

Compassion

Abberley has been filled with the enchanting spirit of the season during this magical Christmas week. It's been a joy to see our pupils immersed in festive activities, creating wonderful memories together. Please read more about these events below. Next week, I would like to invite all parents and family members to join us at our KS2 Carol Service on Thursday.

Nativity performance 'INN-Spectors'               Whole school Christmas lunch

Here are arrangements for the upcoming week of the festive season.

  • The whole school pantomine visit on Tuesday. Children can bring a small snack and drink for the interval. We are planning to be back at school for 4.30pm. If delayed by more than 15minutes we will communicate this to parents. A gentle request: kindly refrain from parking opposite the school to facilitate coaches reversing. After the coach arrives, collect your children from their usual classroom pick-up points. This ensures pupils are safely released to the correct adult in the darkness.
  • Carol Service at St. Mary's Church, Abberley on Thursday 19th December 2pm and 6pm. KS2 children will be walked down to the church for a rehearsal in the morning, so please make sure all children arrive on time as we will be leaving at 9am. If you attending the afternoon service and you wish to transport your children home from the church afterwards, please let their class teacher know. Pupils attending Abberley Acorns or those not transported home will walk back to school for normal end-of-day collection.

Housekeeping: If you have an outstanding Abberley invoice, no matter how small, can you please make an arrangement to pay it by cash or cheque at the school office.

Have a festive weekend.

Wrens

We hope you enjoyed our Nativity play, "The Inn-spectors" yesterday.  We are so proud of all the children.  They all worked incredibly hard to learn their lines, songs and dances and I'm sure you will agree that the final performance was spectacular.

We had a lovely surprise this week when the Abberley Acorns junk modelling club made Wrens their very own Santa's sleigh to ride in.  We had lots of fun dressing up as elves to wrap presents in Santa's workshop and then deliver them in the sleigh.

In RE, we have been learning more about the importance of Christmas to the Christian faith.

In DT this week, we created hibernation boxes.  We drew plans thinking about what we needed to include and then looked at these carefully when building the boxes at Forest School.

We are very much looking forward to our pantomime trip and lots of Christmas activities next week.

Skylarks

This week has been Assessment Week, where the children have completed assessments in reading, writing and maths. They approached these tasks with a positive attitude and showed off all they have learnt.

On Tuesday, we had a fantastic trip to Hartlebury Castle and Museum. The children had a wonderful day, filled with both fun and learning. It was a great opportunity for them to explore toys from the past in an engaging way. Please see the news article for more details. Here are just a few of the photos from the day.

We really hope that you enjoyed the Nativity on Thursday. We are so proud of the children for their fantastic performance. They worked incredibly hard, learning their lines and rehearsing for weeks and it was a great afternoon. A huge thank you to you all for supporting them at home with their lines; it made all the difference.

Timetable

Kestrels

The children have been completing end of term assessments this week in reading, writing and maths. They have all worked really hard this term and it was pleasing to see the perseverance and attitude with which they approached these tests.

In DT, the children continued making their electric posters. They completed their final design and then added a simple, functional circuit to add a light. The children used their prior science learning to work out why their circuit wasn't working if the light wasn't on!

The children then evaluated their design against the given criteria and discussed what worked well and what didn't.

In computing we completed our end of topic quiz on emailing. It is reassuring to know that lots of pupils are confident they can recognise spam emails and addresses. Super online safety skills. Next topic we will be building on our programming knowledge and using the programme scratch. This is a free programme if you wish to download it at home to get some extra learning. Scratch - Imagine, Program, Share

Our carol service is fast approaching and it has been wonderful to hear the school hall full of singing and confident readers. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday at either 2pm or 6pm at the church.

The children will be walking to the church Thursday morning for a final rehearsal. Please could you make sure your child/ren are dropped off at school as usual, before 8:50am so that we can leave promptly. Thank you.

The children have not been set any spellings this week.

Merlins

This week has been an important one at school as it has been assessment week. The children have been assessed in reading, writing and mathematics and we are pleased to share that they approached these assessments with a positive and determined attitude. It's been great to see their hard work and commitment throughout the week.

In the classroom, the children have continued to work on their narrative writing finishing off their stories with a focus on using suspense to captivate the reader. They have worked hard to ensure their stories are engaging and full of tension.

In maths, the students have been building on their understanding of fractions, practicing adding and subtracting fractions, as well as adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Later in the week, they began to explore formal multiplication, which they have embraced with enthusiasm.

In art, the children have been studying Vincent van Gogh and emulating his style and techniques, particularly in creating self-portraits using oil pastels. Their creativity and attention to detail have been impressive.
