Week 2

Timetable

Below are daily activities for English and Maths. After you have completed your daily English and Maths learning, select one of the other subjects from the PDF's at the bottom of the page. Select one of the five other subjects to complete each day.

English Day 1

Before I introduce the story book we are going to be looking at this week, have a look at the x2 pages and see if you can guess what the little girl is trying to do and which of her attempts is likely to have the most success?

Did you guess she was trying to get a large woolly mammoth into a bath tub! The book we are going to look at this week is called...

Before we read this book I would like you to do some research about mammoths. Click on the link below and once you have watched the information film about mammoths then click on the tabs (I have circled them in red)  to research more about mammoths. Write some sentences to describe why you think it would be difficult to wash a woolly mammoth? Remember to start your sentences with  a capital letter and put a full stop at the end.

English Day 2

Yesterday you researched about mammoths so you have a bit more of an understanding about these prehistoric animals. Today, I would like you to look again at the illustrations of how the little girl is trying to get the mammoth into the bath but you will notice there are no sentences, only nouns. Can you create exciting sentences to go with these illustrations?  What verbs will you use to describe HOW the little girl is trying to move the mammoth?

Then think of your own unique method to get the mammoth into the bath,  draw an illustration and write some sentences to describe your method. How creative can you be?

Extra challenge: Can you include adverbs into your sentences? Click the link for more information about adverbs. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zgsgxfr

English Day 3

Click on this link to learn about imperative verbs.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrqqtfr/articles/z8strwx

You now understand what an imperative verb is so sing along to this song to help you remember.

Read the list of imperative verbs written on the ducks. They all relate to washing something.

Today I would like you to use the imperative verbs on the ducks and write sentences to explain possible ways of cleaning the different parts of the woolly mammoth. For example, scrub the tusks with toothbrush or scour behind his ears extra carefully. Remember when writing instructions use the imperative verb at the start of the sentence.

English Day 4                                                                                  English Day 4

Watch this BBC Bite size clip to learn about prepositions.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zw38srd

We know that prepositions are really useful words to give precise details about where or when something should happen. Today I would like you to write some sentences explaining how the woolly mammoth can use his cleaning products to keep clean. I have listed below some prepositions and given you some cleaning products (feel free to make up your own).

The Woolly Mammoth's Cleaning Kit

1. Try rubbing the meadow fresh fragrance behind his ears.

Extra challenge - can you extend your sentences by using 'because, although or when' to give more detail?

  English Day 5

Watch and listen to the story of 'How to Wash a woolly Mammoth' before completing today's activity.

When writing what level of challenge will you use to write your sentences:

Bronze - sentences using capital letters and full stops

Silver - also include expanded noun phrases

Gold - also include verbs and adverbs

Once you have written your story then listen to how the author ended this story.

What a great story. I love the end of the story when it reads, Step Ten: Throw in the towel and SNUGGLE.
